Ellen and Hank started from humble beginnings, growing avocado trees in coffee cans in their backyard.

Today, their passion has blossomed into thriving ranches across Monterey and Ventura County, specializing in avocado varieties and subtropical fruits. Their commitment to growth and innovation continues as a legacy passed down through the family tree.

Flying Disc Ranch, established in 1979 by Robert Lower, produces dates, citrus, figs, pomegranates, aloe, and table grapes. While not certified organic, the ranch employs ecological practices without using non-organic sprays or petroleum-based fertilizers. Their labor-intensive date production—including dethorning, pollinating, and thinning (which can take up to six hours per tree)—yields delicious fruits that serve as healthy alternatives to conventional sweets.

A 400-acre certified organic operation in Northern California's Capay Valley, has practiced sustainable agriculture since 1985. Family-owned, they cultivate over 80 diverse crops while maintaining livestock and prioritizing environmental stewardship through cover cropping and habitat preservation for beneficial insects and wildlife.
