Approximately 2–3 apples per pound

Chenango Strawberry is a medium-to-large American heirloom from New York, circa 1854, with pale yellowish-white skin striped in crimson and a distinctive elongated shape that’s immediately recognizable in a basket of apples. The flesh is tender, juicy, and mildly tart with a genuine strawberry-like aroma that’s not a marketing flourish — it’s actually there when you bite in. Best eaten fresh at peak ripeness, when the skin just starts to turn milky, or cooked down into an applesauce that carries that floral, aromatic quality through. It keeps only a week or two, so it stays strictly local and seasonal.
