Not actually a cucumber. Technically, it's a melon — an ancient Armenian variety brought to Italian gardens in the 15th century, and one of the most visually striking things we carry. Long, sinuous, and striped in alternating dark and light green, the Painted Serpent delivers everything you want from a cucumber: crisp, cool, mildly sweet, and completely bitter-free. The skin is thin enough to skip peeling. Slice into salads, layer onto a mezze board, or shave thin over labneh with mint and olive oil. Grown at Star Route, the oldest continuously certified organic farm in California, just outside Bolinas.
